Concerned

We are starting to be concerned with Cody's nutrition and digestion issues. Cody is not eating well AT ALL. This is not good for a boy who is barely 40lbs (was any way)! We are looking into giving Cody protein bars and other supplemental foods to help him gain weight. His pediatrician is also concerned about his weight. It doesn't help that heis taking a medication for his ADHD that suppresses his appetite. If anyone has any ideas on helping with this, I would be greatly appreciative! Also, please keep my little guy in your prayers.

I'll be praying, Jen. Maybe an appointment with a pediatric dietician would help? Is he dropping on the chart curves? Because if he's holding steady or even making slight increases, even if they're not in "the normal" ranges, I would not become too alarmed.

Reece has always only been in the 3rd-5th percentile for weight. But he continues to track steady in that range so we let it go. If Reece began dropping on the curve, we would become concerned. But as long as he stays status quo, we try not to worry.

Can Cody have peanut butter? Apples and peanut butter for between meals, hummus and carrots (hummus is high in protein), broken bread and Knorr veggie dip, frozen yogurt tubes, whole dates, fig newtons,....

For lunch, would he like to make his own mini pizza (on English muffin halves)? Pasta and baked potatoes are good for calories as well. And if he'll eat avacado, it's healthy high caloric, as are nuts (almonds and walnuts are best).
Blessings,
Toni

Thanks for the suggestions Toni! The pediatrician is concerned but has not referred us to anyone yet. He is 38 lbs currently and you can see all his ribs and is too skinny. He does like peanut butter and I try to give him peanut butter and honey (his favorite) often but he likes to eat meat more than anything else. I am going to try some of your suggestions. I think he would like avocado because he likes anything different...he ate radishes the other day because he liked what they looked like. Of course his activity level also is to blame for not gaining weight. Before he could walk, he was a chubby little guy, but since he has been active and on the go...he is such a skinny boy now!
