Halloween Scare

Tonight, I decided to check on Cinderella and to see if she was asleep. It was a good thing I did because, she was sitting in her bed with scissors. I asked her what she was doing and she said "Nothing Mommy" and quickly dropped her scissors and hair onto the floor. She then tucked the covers over her head and hid.

It was quite a scary scene when I saw her gorgeous blonde hair on the floor! Luckily I caught her when I did or who knows what her hair would've looked like in the morning! She cut one side of her hair with uneven layers and a slight bang. The other side has been untouched. If we would get it cut into a hairstyle, it would have to be REALLY short so we are not going to get it cut. I guess I will have to get creative with hair bows on the side and pony tails. *SIGH* I so was hoping we would skip this childhood incident!!

Trick or Treating at Metamora

We went to Metamora, IN for a safe trick or treating night with the kids. Metamora is one of my most favorite places to visit and to SHOP! When I found out that they have a safe trick or treating time, I decided the kids would really enjoy it. The entire town was completely decorated for Halloween! Many of the shop owners were dressed up as well. It was also neat to see adults and teens dressed in costumes and walking around.

The kids had so much fun and we liked that some people gave out toys, stickers, bracelets, etc instead of candy! We finished the day off with a trip to Steak N Shake! It was a very fun evening that will probably become another tradition!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Last night, we had parent teacher conferences for Mr. C. They went really well and here is my bragging post. His special education teacher said that he is in a reading group of 1 because his reading ability is far above the other children in his group of peers. WOW!! It's amazing how he can read! I love listening to his reading!! Such a proud mom and teacher moment!

Apparently we were supposed to have had a conference for Cinderella right before Mr. C's conference but we never received ANYTHING! Luckily they have the same special ed. teacher who could fill us in after Mr. C's conference minus her homeroom teacher who had another conference. She is doing well and is quite the character at school. This does not surprise me at all. Drama Drama Drama!! And it was nice to find out that they are doing fine being in the same class for reading/math. They are in separate groups so they do not have much time to interact with one another. Whew!

Trunk or Treat

Our church changed their annual Harvest Party to Trunk or Treat this year. Children would go from car to car that was decorated in a scene from the Bible. After listening to the story, they would receive candy. It was really neat! The turnout was outstanding and there were so many visitors! After trunk or treating, everyone went inside for more games, crafts, and chili/hot dogs.

Laughs and Headaches

Parenting is definitely not for the faint of heart! This month has proven this point numerously! With Mr. C.'s surgery/side effects, costume parties, and temper tamtrums, I think I have seen enough drama to last me a lifetime!

Parenting is not easy. Parenting TWO special needs children with lots of developmental delays can be exhausting. Dealing with temper tamtrums can leave me with quite a headache.

This past weekend, we had laughs and headaches caused by our duo.

Here's a few funnies from the past week:

*Upon putting on his Woody cowboy hat, Mr. C yelled "YEEEEEEHAWWWW!"

*Listening to my conversation with her dad about cleaning, Cinderella responded by saying "Who is coming over?"

*After having a rough day, Mr. C comes over, puts his little arm around me, kisses me and says, "Mommy, I love you soooo much!"

Yep, that last comment makes parenting worth it ALL!

Just one of those days....

Yesterday and today was just one of those days when you wish you could stay inside ALL day! Constant rain, strong winds, and cold temperatures make for a very miserable day. I had teacher in-service and since I didn't have to get there early, I got the kids on their bus and that was a cold and wet adventure this morning! Boy, I wish I could have stayed in my pajamas all day!!

We are hoping the weather gets better this weekend as we are looking for another Fall outing!

School Fall Festival

Last night, we took the kiddos to their school-wide Fall Festival at school. All students could come in costume for a night of games, crafts, food, book fair, and the DANCE PARTY! Of course the latter was Mr. C's favorite! That boy can cut a rug! He was seen many times dancing with lots of girls. He danced a few songs with his little girlfriend from 1st grade and he found his "Jessie" and had to dance with her also. Cinderella was dressed in her royal attire and enjoyed the crafts and games although her Strawberry Shortcake nails got in the way of her creations! A good time was had by all!

Fall Fun

Today was a BEAUTIFUL fall day with sunny skies, mild temps and a slightly strong breeze. We decided to take the kids to a really neat corn maze that we try to go every year. This year, we did something very different....we went during the day! We REALLY liked it! It was less crowded, we didn't have to worry about flashlight batteries or holding flashlights, and it was perfect weather. Despite a few minor puddles, the maze wasn't too muddy or wet from last night's rain.

On the mend

Mr. C had a very rough night after the surgery with nausea and lots of pain. He stayed home an extra day to get his energy and eating back. Thursday evening, he started to get back to the old "Mr. C." Dental surgery is so hard on children! Wow! We are hoping and praying that Cinderella doesn't need any teeth pulled when she has her procedure in November!

Crazy Hair Night

Update on Cody

We arrived just a few minutes before 9am at Children's. I must say that this is the BEST hospital ever!! They give the patient and family the most attention ever, plus go out of their way to make the child comfortable. Mr. C went to sleep around 10:30am but due to complications, he was in surgery until 12:45pm.

After 10 minutes or so into the procedure, I get a cell phone call from the dentist which quite honestly, SCARED ME TO DEATH! She had just taken Mr. C's xrays and saw a huge problem with his top adult molars and wanted me to be aware of the fact that she was probably going to pull them. After getting over the shock of it all, the procedure plus cleaning took over 2 hours which was WAY longer than Mr. C's eye surgery almost 2 years ago.

Once everything was taken care of, the dentist met with us and showed what was on the xrays and her reasons for pulling permanent teeth. They were REALLY bad and he was probably in bad pain and could not tell us what was going on.

Once he awoke, they called us back to the recovery room and he was asleep again. Typical Cody! I wasn't prepared for the bloody scene though. He was bleeding and blood was everywhere! The nurse calmed me down and said it was typical and also warned that he may vomit blood as well.

Fast forward an hour later at home, that is EXACTLY what happened! It scared me of course and he has down it three times now. My poor little guy! We are staying home tonight while Matt and Cinderella went to AWANA for Crazy Hair Night. We are hoping he has a good night tonight.

Smooth Sailing

Mr. C had his pre-op doctor's appointment with the newest doctor in the practice. I must say that it went very smoothly and I liked this new doctor! Tomorrow is surgery day and he will have general anesthesia. He had eye surgery almost 2 years ago and the anesthesia made him sleep for the rest of the day. Prayers are greatly appreciated! We are hoping for a smooth surgery as well as quick recovery. Tomorrow is Crazy Hair Night at Awanas and he really wants to go!

My prized purchase of the day

We saw some GORGEOUS fall folliage today! It was an unseasonable day with temps in the 80s! Most of the time when I go to this festival, it is REALLY cold or rainy. Today was a pleasant change but I fear I have some sunburn. Yes, sunburn in October! And I was dripping with sweat and looking for shade. Who would guess?

Random Update

Mr. C earned his Sparks vest two weeks before Cinderella. When Mr. C got his vest last Wednesday and Cinderella did not, well, drama occurred! Fast forward....two days ago, Cinderella earned her vest! Our pastor listens to verses and told Matt that he listened to Cinderella say John 3:16 which is the verse they memorize in order to get their Awana handbook and Sparks vest. Cinderella was beaming when the director asked for club members to stand in the middle of the circle and be applauded for earning their big accomplishment. Now mom can sigh a BIG sigh of relief and start working on new and SMALLER Bible verses! Now their goal is to earn their flight badge which will hold their "jewels."

Not so great dental visit

I always dread taking my two kids to the dentist. Cinderella usually handles cleaning and poking like a champ. Mr. C....not so much! This visit was no different! He became hostile when the new to him dentist wanted to look into his mouth. So, I have to hold his arms down in a death grip and well, he finally gives up and says "Hi!" to the dentist and lets her look at his teeth. The dentist discovers some cavities so the best option for kids with special needs is to put them to sleep and take care of everything. There was a cancellation for next week so Mr. C will be having his dental surgery next Wednesday. So, I got that scheduled when my mom comes out and says that the dentist was to see me regarding Cinderella.

I was dreading this because I just KNEW it wasn't going to pretty. Cinderella had to small cavities last time that the dentist was "watching." Without elevating my blood pressure more than what it already is, let's just say Cinderella will be having dental surgery as well. *sigh* No more candy or fruit snacks for my children anymore! Halloween will be tricky but I am coming up with a plan for that.

I am totally exhausted and now have to go back to school to teach for the rest of the afternoon. *sigh*

October has arrived!

Can you tell we love Halloween here? The kids were playing with costumes and masks this weekend. We found cheap, silly masks at the dollar store and it is amazing how that has entertained my two! I am not big on witches or evil costumes, but the witch mask looked more friendly than evil. Cinderella was was playing with Mr. C's costume from a couple of years ago. Doesn't she make a cute scarecrow?

This year, Mr. C will be Woody from "Toy Story" and Cinderella will be going as herself
"Cinderella" and wear her full outfit that she wore for Bippity Boppity Boutique at Disney World in June. I watched her fairy godmother and I think I can re-create the same hairstyle with glitter and makeup as well.

Does your family go trick or treating?

A Special Day!

Today, I attended my oldest niece's college graduation. Brittany graduated with her degree as a Registered Nurse. We are all so very proud of her! All of her hard work and studying paid off! I can't believe she will be joining the workforce now!
