RIP Maizy

We had an AWESOME evening with news that Matt has a job interview at the company we have been hoping for so we were all very excited. Well, as Matt was backing out the van to take the kids to church, he accidentally ran over one of the black and white kittens....the one that Carleigh had charmed into holding. We have been in tears and we think the kids did see it. Please pray for the kids. Carleigh LOVED that kitty and we are all heartbroken about it. Rest in Peace sweet Maizy. We will so miss you!

I love Fall!

Fall is finally here! Yay! This is my favorite season! I love going to farms to get a pumpkin, take a ride on the wagon and explore corn mazes. Although October is busy, I have planned some really fun activities for the kids including our annual trip to Niederman's farm, Tom's corn maze, pumpkin carving, trick or treating, costume making, baking some yummy cakes, eating plenty of honeycrisp apples, jumping in huge piles of leaves and wearing sweatshirts/jackets. (Can you tell that summer was WAY too long and hot for me this year??)

This weekend, I am planning a "me" day with my sister and niece. We are going to Canal Days at Metamora, Indiana where there will be TONS of crafters, vendors, old-fashioned shops, food, and lots of shopping! I have been looking forward to this day for quite awhile. Last year, I found a great bag/purse and a few other "must haves." I am hoping to find alot of cute stuff for my bedroom that I am re-decorating as well as a few things for the kiddos. I heartily agree that moms need a break and time to renew and refresh. This is my birthday present to myself....Ahhhh! Is it Saturday yet???!!

Our Latest Additions

I am not a cat lover I will fully admit. In fact, I think I am slightly allergic to them. However, these gorgeous creatures have captured my heart! I would LOVE to keep them all! They are the cutest things ever! I try not to have favorites, but the little black one has a special place in my heart. She always searches and finds me and keeps eye contact with me. Carleigh charmed one of the black and white ones that we named Maisy. I have named the little black one Jetta, the gray calico is Daisy and the other black/gray and white one is Patches.

Random Thoughts

My niece Brittany and I decided to do something different for Halloween costumes this year. Normally I buy the kiddos' costumes and it is expensive. This year, we are making their costumes. I really like dressing them as pairs. It's adorable and I know I won't be able to do that much longer. So this year's theme is..... GREASE! Cody will be John Travolta and Carleigh will be Olivia Newton-John! Carleigh can play the role easily with her blonde hair and we are going to spray Cody's hair black/brown. Today I scored at Goodwill and found the perfect black leather jacket for Cody's costume for $5. I have some of his costume already so his look will cost me less than $10 this year! Brittany is going to make Carleigh's poodle skirt, she already has the perfect sweater and now I am on the hunt for a button down blouse and scarf for her. I can't wait to see how it will all go off.

October is going to be a full month for us with lots of corn mazes, festivals, and retreats. I just LOVE fall! It's my favorite season!

I am thinking of getting contacts again....what do you think? This was taken after my niece straightened my hair today.

Lesson learned?

Last night, Cody and Carleigh were wrestling around as usual. Well, Cody must have landed on Carleigh's ear. Carleigh has been complaining about her ear ever since. We thought it might have been an ear infection so we took her to the dr this afternoon to find out that her eardrum had a hole. At first the doctor thought it was a tick (ick!) but no, after cleaning it out with water, a hole was found in her eardrum. My poor girl! She is on antibiotics and ear drops and must go back to the dr. next week for a follow up visit. Maybe she has learned not to play so rough with Cody. Maybe.

MAORA RACE

The MAORA race event was quite interesting! Cody loved all the quads, buggies and other sights and sounds. Carleigh enjoyed playing in the HUGE dirt pile. Okay, the whole place was one big dirt pile! Great fun was had by all!

Since our landlords own the land, we are thinking about walking over there since it made a nice, dirt walking trail. The kids could play and run around without us worrying about cars or strangers and I can get some exercise as well.

Racing buggy

My brother-in-law hosted the race and also drove as a racer. He came in 1st in the first round and third place in the last two rounds giving him a 2nd place overall. Boy was the middle race muddy! They watered the track a bit too much which caused the buggies to be completely covered in mud. It was our first ever buggy race. The kids had a blast and we all had several layers of dirt.

Racing Weekend

This weekend, my brother-in-law will be hosting a MAORA race at his topsoil business locally. Being the wonderful sister-in-law that I am, I decided to help out (for Saturday's races) so the whole family will be going to the off-road dune buggy races. Cody will be in HEAVEN! This boy LOVES dune buggies and ATVs almost as much as his Mickey Mouse and piano. No doubt fun will be had by all!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Another year older

Today is my birthday. Somehow, I am starting to feel older. Could it be that 40 is creeping up on me at an alarming rate? Nah! I still have 6 more years before I hit it, but I am hoping that somehow I miss it.

I am enjoying the birthday wishes that I am getting and presents. Today is also my mom's birthday. What a birthday present I was for her! I think it is so special to have been born on my mom's birthday. This is something that we will always share. Tonight, we are going out with my parents, sister and her family and my family to celebrate our birthdays plus my sister's birthday which will be next Monday. Yes, it is the birthday month in my family!!

Our Sunday

The weather was GORGEOUS with the most beautiful blue skies, puffy clouds and sun. It was windy on the river which kept the temps from rising too much. Connie and I took the kids to River Days and they loved playing in the inflatables and riding the train. Cody charmed his way into the laps of many people while watching his uncle's bluegrass band play in the pavilion. Such a charmer he is!

Weekend plans derailed

Originally, my sister, Carleigh and I were going to go to our family reunion. Yes, the infamous reunion in which things have happened after the reunion two years in a row. Well, I was going to be brave and go, however, my mom got sick so we decided not to go the night before. Nothing like last minute change of plans.

Instead, we went to River Days along the Miami River. The kids had a blast!

NFL Frenzy and a few other things

Last night, Matt was watching the first NFL regular season football game while we were getting the kids ready for bed. Well, upon hearing the national anthem, Cody got up, put his hand on his heart and stood at full-attention while the anthem was playing. Then what he did next CRACKED us up! When the kickoff occurred he yelled and screamed and clapped like he was the biggest football fan of all times! We have NEVER seen him get excited about a football game EVER. Ever! We got a good laugh over that and of course Matt enjoyed every minute of it!

Carleigh has been cracking me up lately. Today, she made a circle out of kids' clothes hangers and proceeded to sit in the center of it. Then a few minutes later, she walks with me into the laundry room and as I turn out the lights, she tells me to stop, that I should keep the lights on because "the cherbils need it!" I think she is already learning so much in Kindergarten! I think she is mesmerized when I sing the Alphabet chant with her. So fun!

School is exhausting!

School is exhausting for my two kiddos! Cody gets off the school bus in a daze. It has been such a big transition from going half day for 3.5 years of school and now doing the full-day thing, he is just wiped! The first thing he does when he arrives home is to drink juice and then he lays in the floor snuggling his best friend Mickey. Some days, he walks far enough to climb in his bed.

Carleigh is tired too. Not sure if she is tired when she is over at my mom's house (poor Mom) but when she gets home, she tries to fall asleep. Bedtime is going much more smoothly than in the summer time. Yay! And I also think their seasonal allergies flare-ups have not helped.

I must admit that I am tired too but not nearly as much as the kids. I hope that they get into the routine soon and life in the evenings will be better.

Did I mention that BOTH kids had homework last night? It was cute because Matt and I both were working at the kitchen table trying to help both of them with homework. This is just the beginning of many nights around the kitchen table!!

Tired and sick

Those are the two words for today!! Carleigh came down with the sniffles on Saturday night and it went into a sinus infection and Cody came down with it on Monday. Cody decided to go to bed early last night which is VERY unusual. The boy slept for over 11 hours last night!! I came down with a bit of it today. We are all so very tired and are going to bed early tonight!

Please sickness and allergies and sinus infections, please leave our house immediately!!

Our weekend

On Saturday, Carleigh and I went with Connie and Brittany to Trader's World and Carleigh was initiated into our world of shopping! She did great and quickly fell asleep on the way home! Then, I had a surprise birthday party to attend that evening at Jeremy's parents' home in Somerville. Sunday went by so fast with church and then grocery shopping, biking 8 miles and helping my sister out on some home projects. Today was a much slower-paced day with sleeping late, reading, cleaning and getting ready for a cookout at my home. My sister came up with an idea to have a cookout today since we were all home on Labor Day (which is very RARE!). Carleigh is totally excited about having people down. Have a good one everyone!

Happy 21st Birthday Brittany!

My niece Brittany's birthday was on Friday. I cannot believe she is 21 years old! I remember the day she was born (on Labor Day weekend) and remember looking at that dark brown haired, brown eyed baby and thinking she was the cutest thing I had ever seen!

My family and I went out to dinner to celebrate. On Saturday, her boyfriend had a surprise birthday party for her and she was so surprised. It's been such a fun weekend!

Bring on the weekend!

We are so happy about having a three day weekend to have fun and relax! I have planned a few trips related to the outdoors. The kids will enjoy it and I will get some much needed exercise--hiking and bike riding! I just am so thankful that the temps are going to be down so that we can do a lot of fun stuff!

Have a great Labor Day weekend everyone!!

First Grade Project

Cody and I completed his first home project together. We had to pick 5 pictures of his life to share in his timeline. There are about a million pictures that I could include, but these are the 5 we picked. It made me very nostalgic and amazed at how times truly flies! What a fun project!

Sunroof Nightmare

Normally I do not blog about issues like this, but there is a great testimony in this! Here's the background: the van's a/c is not working (and I really do not want to spend the hundreds to get it fixed right now) so I have been rolling down all my windows in the van and using the sunroof. Well, last Thursday, I tried to close it and discovered it would not close! What?!! This was so not what I needed on top of a lot of other things going on. Matt took it to Toyota today and said that after one and a half hours of look ing it over, the technician came out and said that he has bad news. Some parts of the sunroof were damaged and the glass was jammed with the sunroof cover. And for a cheap total of $3,000 we could get it fixed on Friday.

Yes, you saw that right....$3,000 to fix a sunroof. Insane! And, oh, yes we have $3,000 just floating around in our wallets! So, Matt brings it back, I get frantic and start calling my parents. My dad is a mechanic so he came over and took out the dvd player and tried to get it close, but he could not. Well, his co-worker happened to come over to the garage and came over. With both of them pulling and pushing the lever, THEY GOT IT CLOSED! YES!!!! We tested it with our water hose and no water seeped into the van! Praise the Lord! I am so thankful for my dad and Greg.

School Update

Carleigh's second day of Kindergarten went really well! She visited the Clifford room and was very excited that her intervention specialist gave her a Clifford book (and yes we read it last night over and over!) and she successfully rode the regular K neighborhood bus with no problems. Whew!

Cody is doing fine in 1st grade. His language arts/math teacher gives me updates or fills out a form to let me know how the day went. And we are already working on a Social Studies project for his 1st grade classroom. Let me tell you that I LOVE the fact that I can get Cody off the bus in the afternoons! The first thing he does after I help him step down, he hugs me and gives me a kiss or multiple kisses. Precious!

We are all looking forward to the 3-day weekend! I love my class, but I love my family more and any time I can spend with them, I completely cherish.
